Known for his influence on the Cape Town skate
scence, and a killer tache that you definitely can’t miss, we interview
the Jaakness to find out what keeps him going between sessions, what he
gets up to and how he takes care of that sweet Mo. Pretty appropriate
for Movember, check it out.
▲1. I don’t know what your
best at, growing a killer mustache or skating, do you have a certain
technique for growing such a bad boy?
Jaakness: It’s all about the grooming! A well groomed mustache is a happy mustache.
▲2. What do you think of the skate scene in Cape Town? Personally, I know that Cape Town doesn’t really have skate parks and that with security and sketchy spots its quite hard to get a decent session in.
▲2. What do you think of the skate scene in Cape Town? Personally, I know that Cape Town doesn’t really have skate parks and that with security and sketchy spots its quite hard to get a decent session in.
Jaakness: I think of the Cape Town skate
scene as a family. Everyone knows each other, skates together and
parties together. Everyone is so supportive of each other when skating.
▲3. Handrails or ledges?
Jaakness: Handrails!
Jaakness: Via was definitely the best trip I have ever been on! Just the overall vibe was awesome. Good friends travelling into the unknown (to us) and exploring every corner to find new spots. Trips like this are not for everyone though. It’s rough, dirty and full of surprises along the road. I would highly recommend everyone to go on a trip like Via.
▲5. Which do you prefer, planned or unplanned trips and why?
Jaakness: It has to be planned, but I don’t want to know what the plans.
▲6. What kind of music makes you amped for your next skate session?
Jaakness: At the moment it has to be The Black Keys!
▲7. What do you do to amuse yourself when you’re not busy skateboarding?
Jaakness: Put gel in my mustache.
▲8. What is your favourite place to travel to?
Jaakness: Mozambique. I have only been there once and it was the most amazing experience for me.
▲9. Does being a final year graphic designer student influence board time?
Jaakness: Unfortunately yes. Third year is rough, but you’ll always find time to have a sesh.
▲10. What makes you feel Liberated?
Jaakness: Just being myself and not a copy of the world.- Interview: Krige Venter
