Synergy Live 2011

It’s where people got together at Boschendal’s wine estate as friends, acquaintances’ and strangers; bound by their love for music and festivities.

Synergy creates the awareness of how diverse the South African music scene is, the quality of music and the great amount of people supporting the scene in this limited market. The progress that has been made in the last 5 years is astonishing and the market and quality of music is still constantly progressing.

There was near to none organizational problems and the event flowed smoothly. With three stages and a comedy tent there was enough entertainment for anybody that was willing to pay for the event. If you have to find something to complain about it would be of the distance of the walk between the parking, tents and the stage.

Through the day it was nice to fleet from the sun into the comedy tent (perfect for a morning hang over) and at midday chill in the river with a couple of beers. At Synergy I realized that it was easier to forget your sleeping bag or even tent, than alcohol.

I not going to talk too much about the different acts, because there is too much to cover, an amazing festival lineup. I will elaborate on some. Taxi Violence gave a solid show; they are really under rated as a band. aKing also gave a solid act, getting everyone jumping. PH Phat made everybody move, I realized how good he is at expressing the scene through his lyrics. Jax Panik was a crowd pleaser, personally not liking the music direction he is moving into. His performance can be summed up by his dj’s shirt, “I am what you want” and that is open to your interpretation. BRMC was great with their melodic, bluesy garage rock;  I wish I was better acquainted with their music.

Next year again, thanks Synergy. ▲
