Personally, this show reminded me of the feeling you get
when you’ve had too many glasses of the same wine and the connoisseur walks
over and hands you a palette freshener, or when you’ve eaten two minute noodles
for lunch for a week and an old friend comes into town, takes you out and hands
you a slice of Sgt Pepper’s pizza, I guess the term is refreshing. Granted, I am
a sucker for acoustic and at least that’s out there now. Done. I no longer have
to hide my guilty pleasure of tirelessly indulging in the inclination of
searching for acoustic covers of my favourite songs and no, I don’t just settle
for any shit out there under the sun. Anyway acoustic covers, smoking and
swearing are obviously my three main vices. The Plastics played acoustic and
they did it well. Sasha and Pascal Righini graced Aandklas’ stage with their
presence and displayed their instrumental talents whilst delivering wonderful
tunes, including a cover of their ever popular, Stereo Kids. I think Aandklas’ Storytellers series is a
clever manner to cajole fans, artists, etc. through the winter months. For those
of you who don’t know, Storytellers at Aandklas hosts different local artists
over 8 weeks and gives them the opportunity to share tales of journeys, play
new songs, and drink light beers on tab. (Haha - winks).
Anyway for those of you that missed Storyteller’s opening
with The Plastics, you really did miss out. Do not fear though, you are
forgiven as it was during exams and your time was not completely squandered as
there is always a next time. Queue drumroll, please….next up is Gerald Clark
and Basson Laubscher. Make sure you’ve got a whiskey in hand because these guys
are here to chase the blues away.
