Any skateboarding trip is exciting. The prospect of searching for spots in small towns and camping at different locations is golden. Skateboarding let you experience a town on ground level, it is quite enlightening, rather than driving through the towns to your end destination.
Our trip consisted out of a crew of two skateboarders (Jacques Fourie & Krige Venter), a guy behind the camera and friends joining in for the party at Langebaan. The trip took place this year in the middle of summer, something I miss. We covered quite a lot of ground in three days, exploring the streets of Malmesbury, Langebaan, Veldrif, Potterville and Piketberg.
The trip had a lot of unplanned excitement. Our car almost rolled on the dirt road to Porterville and a baboon infestation at night at 22 Watervalle camping terrain near Potterville. 22 Watervalle was definitely the highlight of the trip for me, hiking in the valley and escaping the heat in the cooling pools and waterfalls.
The most skateboarding took place on the first day and on our third day it was basically impossible to skate, because the temperature was 47 degrees! We couldn’t skate Piketberg, because of the extreme heat, but the place has many potential spots.
Take your board, travel and enjoy South Africa nature; even if it’s only for the weekend.
